Privacy Policy
Moony Moon has no user account and no server of ours. Your data lives in the app on your phone. What leaves it is the short context needed to write your daily guidance, plus basic app usage statistics, and the sections below explain where both go.
The company, based in Germany, operates under GDPR guidelines. Processing relies on:
Performance of a Contract: core features such as your daily guidance, chat answers and lunar calculations
Explicit Consent: the profile details you enter and the device permissions you grant, each given through in-app fields and your device's permission prompts
Legitimate Interest: basic, aggregated app usage statistics that tell us how the app performs
Profile details you choose to enter, such as nickname, birth date and city
The focus areas you pick and any notes you write for them
Chat questions and planner goals you submit
Location, only with your permission
Aggregated usage statistics (app opens, screens viewed, app version, device model, coarse region), collected through Google Analytics for Firebase. We request no advertising permission and use no advertising identifier
Every profile field is optional. The app works with an empty profile, the guidance is simply less personal.
All of your personal profile details, chat history, plans and profile photo are saved securely right on your own phone's local storage. We maintain no servers storing personal information, and we have no copy of your data. Deleting the app deletes it all.
Moony's written content, including your daily guidance and the answers in chat, is generated with the help of third-party AI providers. To produce it, the app sends them the personal information described in section 2, apart from the usage statistics and your profile photo, which are never sent to an AI provider.
Providers may keep what they receive for a limited period, and some may use it to improve their own models unless you opt out with them directly. Section 5 explains where they are located and what that means for you.
Some features rely on services provided by the maker of your phone's operating system, Apple or Google, which receive only what the feature itself needs, such as your approximate location for the weather. Their own privacy policies apply to that processing.
Some of these providers process data outside the European Union, and EU law does not treat every destination the same way.
Destinations with recognised protection. Providers in the United States that receive your data are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of protection (Art. 45 GDPR). Apple and Google process data under their own privacy commitments and the EU standard contractual clauses.
Destinations without an adequacy decision. Some of the processing described in section 4 takes place at an AI provider located in the People's Republic of China, and the data it receives is processed there. The European Commission has issued no adequacy decision for China, and this transfer is not covered by standard contractual clauses, so it relies on your consent and on what is necessary to provide the feature you asked for (Art. 49(1)(a) and (b) GDPR). What this means for you: data held in China can be accessed by authorities there on terms that differ from EU law, and exercising your rights with a company outside the EU can take longer.
The app asks for location, calendar, reminders, microphone with speech recognition, and notifications only when a feature needs one, and each feature still works in a reduced form if you decline. You can change every permission at any time in your device's Settings app. Dictation is transcribed on your device where your device and language support it, and by your phone's speech service otherwise. Choosing a profile photo uses the system picker, which hands the app the single picture you select and gives it no access to the rest of your library.
Calendar and Reminders access is used to write, not to read: the app creates its own Moony calendar, adds your planned sessions and sky events to it, and updates or removes those same entries when a plan changes. It does not read, collect or transmit the other events in your calendar. Notifications are scheduled on your device, so no notification content passes through a push server.
Payment processing occurs through the app store you installed from, the Apple App Store or Google Play. The company never handles financial data and never sees your name, payment details or store account.
We do not and will never sell, trade, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. Moony shows no ads, and it does not follow you around other apps or websites.
Moony is meant for people aged 16 and over, or 13 and over where local law allows that, such as in the United States. The AI features are for people aged 18 and over, and you confirm your age before your first chat.
If you are in the EU: you can ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, object to how we process your data, and withdraw any consent you have given, at any time. Most of it you can do yourself, right inside the Moony Moon app, because the data is on your phone: edit a field, delete an entry, or delete the app to erase everything at once. For anything else, write to us. You can also complain to your supervisory authority, ours being the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach.
If you are in California: you have the right to know which categories we collect, to delete, to correct, to opt out of any sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for using those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as the CPRA defines it.
Anything a third-party provider has already processed follows that provider's own policy.
www.app-moony.com is hosted by a third-party website host, which handles standard server log data such as your IP address and browser type in order to serve the page securely. We run no advertising or tracking tools of our own on the site.
We will tell you in the app whenever something significant changes. The date at the top always tells you which version you are reading.
