We believe your privacy is just as important as your personal lunar journey. We wrote this policy in plain language to explain what information we process, why we need it, and how you can control your data.
Our golden rule: Your data belongs to you, and the vast majority of it never leaves your phone.
As a company based in Germany, we follow the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We rely on two legal permissions to make the app work for you:
Providing the App (Performance of a Contract): For core features, like calculating general moon phases based on your time zone, we process data simply to give you the service you asked for.
Your Explicit Consent: Because your personal mood logs, journal entries, and precise location are legally protected as "Special Categories" of sensitive data, we only process them for advanced features if you give us clear, explicit consent. You grant this consent through device permissions and specific in-app toggles, and you can withdraw it at any time.
To give you personalized moon phases, mood tracking, and astrological insights, the app uses:
Your Profile: Basic details like your nickname, birth date, and zodiac sign.
Your Daily Logs: Your "Moony Mood" scores and personal journal entries.
Your Chats: The questions you ask "Moony Chat".
Your Location & Calendar: Geolocation data for accurate local moon phases, and calendar data to sync your lunar activities (but only if you give your phone permission to share this with the app).
We built Moony Moon so that you hold the keys to your information. Whether you use the free or premium version, your app acts as a private digital diary.
Safe on your device: All of your personal profile details, private journal entries, and mood history are saved securely right on your own phone's local storage.
No company servers: We do not have any company servers. We do not store, host, or monitor your personal information, daily logs, or chat histories anywhere.
Moony Moon offers advanced AI features to provide personalized lunar insights. You are in complete control of what data is shared with our AI partners:
Your Control Over Sensitive Data: For features that use your mood logs to offer a personalized experience, we give you full control. You can choose to share your mood logs with our AI partners for deeper insights. Unless you explicitly choose to share them, your mood data stays safely on your phone.
Processing Details: When you use our AI features for a personalized experience, the data needed to generate your insights—such as the specific questions you type, along with any profile or mood logs you have chosen to include—is sent directly from your phone to our trusted AI partners. Because your phone communicates directly with these AI services, your device's IP address is temporarily used to route the request.
Google (Gemini API): Used for most of our users. Google processes your data quickly to generate your response in real-time and does not use your private prompts to train their AI models. Data sent to Google in the United States is protected by legal safeguards called the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
DeepSeek (China Only): Used exclusively for users connecting from or with devices regionally set to the People's Republic of China. Please note that DeepSeek may retain your prompts on their servers and use this data to train their models. If you use this service, you are consenting to the transfer of this data to China under Article 49 of the GDPR and applicable local laws.
A Quick Privacy Tip: Even with the AI features enabled, we recommend keeping your journal entries focused on your feelings and avoiding highly identifying details (like your full real name, home address, or ID numbers). If you choose to upgrade to a Premium subscription, all payments are processed securely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We never see, handle, or store your credit card number or financial details.
Because your personal information and daily logs live on your device and not with us, we couldn't sell them even if we wanted to! We do not and will never sell, trade, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), we do not "sell" or "share" your personal information for targeted advertising.
AI Features: You must be 18 or older to use any AI features due to our AI partners' strict rules.
General App: The core tracking features of Moony Moon are not intended for children under the age of 16 (or 13 in certain regions, like the US under COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. To permanently erase a child's locally saved data, simply delete the app from their device.
We believe in providing a high standard of privacy to all our users globally.
For Users in Europe (GDPR): You have the right to access, fix, erase, and object to the processing of your data. Because we are based in Bavaria, Germany, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with our lead privacy regulator, the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA).
For Users in California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what categories of personal information our app processes. Under CPRA, your exact location and daily mood logs may be considered Sensitive Personal Information (SPI). We only process this data to provide the app features you requested. You have the right to delete or correct your data, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
How to Exercise Your Rights: Because your data is stored locally on your phone without an account, you can access, edit, or delete your data directly inside the Moony Moon app. If you delete your profile or simply uninstall the app from your phone, all of your saved personal data is permanently erased. Note: Because we do not have servers, we cannot fulfill deletion requests for data that you have already chosen to transmit to our AI partners.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make big changes, we will notify you through the app so you can review them before they take effect.
